Dear Kate Gosselin,
We're writing to you because we're a little concerned about a rumor we just heard -- that you're thinking of running for office. And we just wanted to say: don't. Please don't.
Yes, we understand that you were impressed by Presidential hopeful Sarah Palin when you accompanied her on that TLC-sponsored camping trip. We were impressed, too: Sarah Palin sure knows a heck of a lot more about surviving in the Alaskan wilderness than she does about, say, NAFTA. But now you reportedly think that being a reality TV star is a natural stepping-stone to a political career -- or, in the words of a tattling friend, "Kate realized that if [Palin] could run for office than so could Kate."
Okay, let's back up a minute. Sarah Palin may not have a ton of political experience compared to most Presidential wannabes, but she was Governor of Alaska for three years, preceded by six years as mayor of Wasilla. You, Kate, weren't even voted into the finals of Dancing With the Stars. And we hate to break it to you, but being the benevolent dictator of eight children doesn't count as political experience.
But since when are you interested in politics, anyway? We haven't seen you running for city council, appearing on the board of a charity, or even joining the PTA. That's why we suspect that running for office is just another hare-brained scheme to capitalize on your reality TV fame instead of getting a normal, steady, unglamorous job. You've said in the past that you can't take a regular job because you'd have to spend too much time away from the kids -- but have you looked at a Senator's schedule lately? Talk about time away from home!
Honestly, Kate, it's time to follow your husband Jon's example -- and no, we can't believe we just typed those words -- and get a normal job. Politics is just not for you. Besides, you can take comfort in the fact that you've already given Sarah Palin's campaign a giant, if unintentional, boost. That crazy breakdown you had on your would-be camping trip (we'll embed the video below in case you've blocked it out) made Palin seem competent, reasonable and good-natured by comparison. What politician could ask for anything more?
Do you think Kate Gosselin would have a shot at political office? Chime in below!
