She was very close to her father John Thomas Doherty, and sadly last Friday (November 5) Shannen Doherty lost her dad.

The ?Beverly Hills: 90210? actress released a statement to share the devastating news, noting that she looked up to her dad in everything.

Shannen called her father ?the greatest man in the world? I love him with every inch of my being and cannot imagine life without him.?

John Thomas Doherty suffered a stroke last Christmas, prompting Shannen to take on the challenge of competing in ?Dancing with the Stars.? He was 66 years old.
